But what is true for this novel's determined protagonists will go double for its faithful readers: Take the time to get carried away, and time itself--as well as the way you think about how you spend yours--will take on new dimensions. Content on breaking the rules of entering the contaminated water, it brought a sense of unbridled freedom to a young Pidgeon. I read the book in three days and have been thinking about it ever since.

    Some things cannot be forgotten. A symmetrical and multi-layered yarn, as near to a 19th-century three-decker as it is possible to be. Before it even arrived in this country, 1Q84 was one of the most chattered-about titles of the fall. We got our hopes up--and he didn't let us down.
